Amazon May Close Another State - Let's Talk Alternatives

That Darn Nexus Sales Tax Issue is Back
Remember when it seemed every state in the US was at risk of losing its Amazon affiliate program?  Well, it's been awhile but another state is at risk.

In December, Michigan passed a law that redefines the existence of affiliates in a state as a retailer having nexus and, therefore, requires those retailers to collect sales tax.  Historically, Amazon has closed the affiliate program when that law takes effect.  For Michigan, that law goes into effect in October.

This doesn't just put the Amazon program in Michigan at risk but any affiliate program in Michigan for a retailer who does not have a physical presence in that state - this could include Zazzle, Etsy, small ShareASale merchants, etc.

If you live in Michigan - or in another location that does not have an Amazon affiliate program - you need alternative programs.  You need to focus on retailers that have lots of physical stores AND an online business such as:
  • Walmart
  • Home Depot
  • JCPenney
  • Sears
  • Target
  • Lowes
Go to those individual sites to find their affiliate program information, go to CJ.com and look over their advertiser list, and go to Flexoffers.com to check their available affiliate programs.  Sign up now to get approved before anything happens in October just to be on the safe side.
The 5 Figure Adsense BluePrint
Many months ago I wrote a great review about Jon Dykstra's Fat Stacks Authority site guide.  Jon contacted me this week with news that he has upgraded his course (and I thought it was great before!) and that the price will increase from $67 to $97 this Friday.

If you did not buy the course the first time, you can learn more here and get in before the price increase:

Jon's course consists of a 110 PDF covering everything you need to do to build a solid, authority site including how he achieves 500,000 organic visitors a month, the paid advertising he uses to drive even more traffic and how he achieves an average monthly NET income of $15,000-$18,000.

His method is completely sound.  He gives you thorough directions including how to set up your site, the theme he uses, plugins, and how to design your advertising plan should you decide to use paid traffic.

When you read he's built only 2 sites using this method you might think he's inexperienced.  Instead, you should be thinking that this is the kind of path you want to take.  You don't need lots of sites.  You need just one or two really strong sites done the right way.

Jon puts his all into his sites, doesn't think small, is very good at explaining his methodology, and has years of experience.  His guides are very insightful and worth the money.

Halloween is Just Around the Corner!
If you want to do any promotion of Halloween items it's time to get working on those posts.

Update links in any old Halloween posts, look for new products to write about, interlink any related content to help flow your link juice from one post to another and scout out new affiliate programs.  Amazon is not the only game in town when it comes to Halloween.  ShareASale has lots of great stores featuring fright night costumes and decorations.

Don't put this off - the sooner you get your new links and content up for Halloween the better your results will be.
