I want to MOTIVATE you to carry through with these programs so badly that I'm going to do something I've never done before. I'm going to tell a large group of people how much I've made creating my own products and promoting other people's products as an
affiliate.
This is a little uncomfortable for me because I make that money from you (my list) so it feels like I'm saying "Hey, look how much
I've profited from you!". I truly hope you don't take it that way. I try very hard to make sure to create and promote only things I think will really work for you because they've worked for me.
However, my goal has always been to help others replicate my own success. Examples, facts, and case studies have always been important for helping me with my own learning - so, I'm sharing.
First, let's look at my email promotion for the Simple Profits System and then I'll tell you how I got here.
I have several email lists and there's some duplication between those lists. Almost all of those lists get the same emails. Only one of them has an actual follow-up series of emails in
place.
I don't have a giant list. I started my email list with nothing - no idea how to
use Aweber, no affiliates to help me sell my products, and no idea how to use WarriorPlus or the WSO section of WarriorForum.
It took me a couple of hours to research the Simple Profits System product, put a bonus together, and write the email. Boom - $3400.
The email I sent on 9/21 promoting the Simple Profits System was sent to 3806 people. Of those
people, approximately 1200 people opened the email. A total of 558 people clicked the link in the email and I sold a total of 309 products for a net income of $2847.97.
Unbeknownst to me at the time, the seller was running a number of contests for affiliates. I never pay attention to contests. Often, I only find out there was one after the seller contacts me and asks where to send the money I won. (There's a tip in here for you - don't focus on contests - focus on people and
products. If you win a contest count it as an unexpected windfall!)
I won TWO contests for that product promotion even though I didn't send the email until a day or two after the product came out. I'd won $600 in total.
That's $3447.97 in just a matter of days from one email.
How did I get here? What did I do to get to the point where I could send
an email and make thousands? I didn't even WANT to build a list at first!
I was afraid of list building - the responsibility, the idea that I might have to interact with people, the
confusion about what to do once I had a name on my list, and the expense that might be associated - and that fear kept me from getting started.
Someone pushed me past that fear and I want to do the same for you.
I launched my first WSO in April 2011. I didn't understand the value of an email list. In fact, I didn't even have an email list when I first launched the product. I was only valuing the product and that's how I
priced the product. I set the price at $29 and didn't fully connect how selling at a lower price could result in more sales and more names on an email list.
Someone encouraged me to create an email list and walked me through how to get buyers of my product to sign up to my list.
In total, I've launched 31 WSOs since April 2011 (wow - I hadn't realized how many I'd launched...). I've sold 23,970 copies of my products for a gross revenue of $360,019.22.
Of the gross revenue, $105,471.04 has been paid to affiliates. (While I didn't
have them initially, they did eventually show up.) ;)
That's about $255,000 in 4 1/2 years or an average of $56,000 per year. The first year was very slim, the second was better, and each year thereafter has continued to improve as the size of my list has grown.
In that same time, I've made $63,903.82 as an affiliate promoting other products to my list. That's an average of another $14,200 per year.
That's an average of $70,000 a year earned from having built an email list using WSOs.
Some points to keep in
mind:
- I don't actively try to recruit affiliates for my products. I've simply drawn attention over time by reputation. At best (and this happens about 40% of the time), I send an email to a few regular affiliates less than 24 hours before I
launch (for which they rightly chastise me for not giving enough notice....).
- I don't do upsells. All product revenue is a straight sale of one product.
- I rarely promote products to my list. It goes in clumps - sometimes I might send 2-3 promotional emails a month. Other times I might go months and months without sending a promotional email. It all depends on what's going on in the market at the time and where my own focus lies.
- I don't have sales pages outside of the WarriorForum.
- I never did the free or near-free
WSO method.
- I almost always offer 50% commission rate to affiliates. I think I once tried a 75% or 100% commission rate but I prefer the 50% method for where I am today.
- I create my own products and do my own WSO sales pages.
All of the above means that I don't squeeze my list to death, I don't spend a ton of money creating products, nor do I leverage all the methods the "big guys" say you need to follow to make email marketing a success. Having a list does not consume large amounts of my time.
You don't have to go at it like the "big guys". You don't have to be an expert in how to build a list. You don't have to have a pile of affiliates. You don't have to know exactly what you're going to do next. You don't have to do it perfectly from the get-to.
You just have to get started and take time to understand the concepts. The Simple Profits System and the Ultimate Success Plan are going to help you with both of those
things.
Now, promise yourself you're going to pull that Simple Profits System book back out, you're going to watch the Ultimate Success Plan videos and you're going to get
busy! ;)
Sincerely,
Erica Stone
