Many of you have contacted me with questions about what changes you should make to your websites' Privacy Policy pages in order to comply with the GDPR.
I know there are a lot of paid plugins suddenly floating around and I hate to see you pay for something unnecessarily. Some of you may benefit from those, depending on the kind of website you're operating, but many folks won't need to go to
that extent.
I haven't checked out any of the plugins, frankly, as I've got my hands full BUT I did complete changes to the Privacy Policy pages of all of my websites but
one (that one has some special needs as it's the one I use for my email list - wish me luck!!).
I created a template for myself and am making it available to any of you who may be
able to use it.
You can download that template and the instructions for using the template here:
I am not an attorney (in case you didn't already know that!) and I cannot in any way guarantee that this template complies with the GDPR. I've done my homework as best I can and am comfortable that this will work for me and my situation.
What I do know is that the GDPR only applies to PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION you may be gathering. For the most part, that might be IP addresses which your host probably stores in a log file somewhere.
However, people who leave comments on your site are also sharing their email addresses. That is also considered PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION.
This template I've created accounts for both of those.
I am providing this template for those who don't know where to turn or what to do and are worried that they may not have their websites ready in time (before May 25, 2018).
I'm fairly certain you'll find a typo or two or something you think reads funny in
this template. Just make sure to read through it and tweak it if you find anything looks quirky. I'm on a time crunch and promised several people I'd get this out today!
Hope this helps at least some of you!
FYI - for any of you in the EU, you may very soon have to be
removed from my list. I'm working as fast as I can to get you a compliant opt-in page so you can stay on my list if you'd like. If I don't make the cutoff, PLEASE check http://extremereviewer.com within a few days and I will have a link to the new opt-in page in the sidebar as quickly as I can!
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Erica Stone
