The best thing I've ever seen in my Google Webmaster Tools
|
After months and months of work to get a manual Google penalty removed from one of my largest Amazon review sites, I've finally done it. To celebrate, I've created a step by step guide for anyone who needs to do the same.
If you haven't experienced a penalty but you're concerned about your backlink profile on your own sites and want to take preventative action or you want to make sure your Squidoo lenses don't get locked for bad backlinks, this guide will help you, too.
This guide is FREE and includes sample removal request forms, a reconsideration request outline, and a spreadsheet you can use to track your efforts. You'll also better understand the kinds of links that Google considers to be unnatural.

Unnatural Links Penalty Removal Guide
Feel free to share the download with your friends. I'll be thrilled if it helps just one person get their site out of Google purgatory.
I have to thank Melissa who gave me a final piece to the puzzle.
I have multiple sites but this was the only one that had such a penalty. It's a great feeling to get that site back into the fold! While the guide is written for those with site penalties, you can use some of the tools in the guide to remove links to your Squidoo lenses if you think you have too many of the wrong kind of backlinks.

Tired of the Changes at Squidoo?
|
Squidoo has been making changes like a fiend and lots of lensmasters are looking for an alternative.
I think Squidoo is making changes that are necessary for their long-term success. They could do a better job communicating those changes but that's just wishful thinking.
If you've found another site to use instead, I'd caution you to choose those alternatives carefully. If you're moving to a site that isn't as controlled as Squidoo is at the moment, you could find yourself going through all of these changes all over again just at a different site.
Take cues from what Squidoo is doing as signals about what works in today's environment no matter where you're going to put your content.
I think Squidoo is great and I'll still be using them but I'm toning down that use and switching back to a more concentrated focus on my own sites. If you're ready to learn to do the same, join me in OBI and follow the step by step thread where I walk through all the steps in building a review site on WordPress. You'll get to see the site, follow my progress and ask questions as you build your own site at the same time.
